Simply outdoors. For you, too!

Denmark has hundreds of free public shelter-spaces and even more trekking-places to stay there for up to two nights.

They allow local microadventures but are also easy accessible socially inclusive spots for ecological tourism in nature:

For example for bikepacking and hiking, up to europe-wide biketravels and long-distance-hiking... Eurovelo 2 and the european long distance path E1 pass just round the corner from Bielefeld.

Such a place is also a win for Bielefeld!

The screenshot shows the creation of my 3D-shelter-prototype in the free software Blender version 5.x. It is based on the geometry of EPAL-pallets and wooden beams that are locally sourceable as trashed packaging. Download of the model: shelter_biepal_v001.blend

In Dänemark gibt es hunderte kostenlose, öffentliche Shelter-Hütten und noch mehr Trekkingplätze für bis zu zwei Übernachtungen.

Sie ermöglichen lokale Mikroabenteuer, aber auch niedrigschwelligen, sozial inklusiven, naturnahen und nachhaltigen Tourismus:

Bikepacking und Wandertouren, bis hin zu europaweiten Fahrradreisen und Fernwanderungen... Eurovelo 2 und europäischer Fernwanderweg E1 schrammen nur knapp an Bielefeld vorbei.

Ein solcher Ort ist auch ein Gewinn für Bielefeld!

Minimal shelter-huts are possible projects, even for small groups of people. We need just the support of the local community or people who donate a public place, to build in public. But what we build is part of a european bike-hike-infrastructure network. Every network begins at one place.

Do you like the idea as much as i do? Is here a good place for shelters? Would you like to help building them? Are there good old materials in the local area that can be reused, to build more climatefriendly?

That are questions i now ask at dirfferent occasions and with post in the fediverse (more info on that at Connections).

Minimale Shelter-Hütten sind umsetzbare Projekte, auch für kleine Gruppen von Menschen. Wir brauchen fast nur die Unterstützung der lokalen Kommune oder von Menschen, die ein öffentlich zugängliches Stück Land spenden, um dort einen öffentlichen Trekkingplatz einzurichten.

Wir bauen einen wichtigen Teil eines europäischen Rad-Wander-Infrastruktur Netzwerks. Und: Jedes Netzwerk beginnt an einem konkreten Ort.

Gefällt dir die Idee so gut wie mir? Gibt es hier einen geeigneten Platz für Shelter? Möchtest du mithelfen welche zu bauen? Gibt es gute Altmaterialien in der Nähe, die wir klimafreundlich wieder/weiter nutzen könnten?

Das sind Fragen, die ich nun bei verschiedenen Gesprächen und auch über den Fediverse-Account stelle (mehr dazu bei Verbindungen).

I am looking for a public place in nature near Bielefeld to have an artistic shelter construction site there starting in may 2026.

In two months i want to build shelter huts together with local supporters. Re/using local/regional ressources (like wood) as much as possible. At "Construction Site Talks" with music different initiatives present their journeys by foot or by bike.

We create a permanent free trekking place allowed for short visits. It is not temporary art. It is art as public infrastructure.

Ich suche nach einem öffentlichen Ort im Grünen nahe Bielefeld, um dort eine künstlerische Shelter-Baustelle ab Mai 2026 zu eröffnen.

In zwei Monaten möchte ich dort mit lokalen Unterstützer*innen Shelter-Hütten bauen. Dabei sollen möglichst viele lokale Ressourcen (wie Holz) wieder/weiter genutzt werden. Bei "Baustellengesprächen" mit Musik sollen verschiedene Initiativen von ihren Reisen zu Fuß oder mit dem Rad berichten.

Es entsteht ein dauerhaft kostenlos für Kurzzeit-Übernachtungen erlaubter Trekkingplatz. Es ist keine temporäre Kunstinstallation. Es ist Kunst als öffentliche Infrastruktur.

Decentralised earth-friendly travel-infrastructures are very similar to the idea of the "Fediverse":

Many different people and initiatives create and care for shelter-huts like for mostly little fediverse-instances.

This project uses "Mastodon" (one flavor of the Fediverse) with the account https://fedifreu.de/@shelter as public social media.

I developed this initiative while studying "Gestaltung" at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Bielefeld (HSBI). You find more about me at apgw.de
